We built the surplus lines tax platform we wished existed

SLTax360 helps insurance agencies, MGAs and wholesale brokers keep multi-state surplus lines compliance in one place: correct tax math, every deadline, and every filed report and confirmation, with direct electronic filing in 24 states.

Why we built SLTax360

We started SLTax360 to fix one broker's filing problem. Their system could not send anything to a state. Every surplus lines filing meant re-keying the carrier's invoice into a portal, tracking deadlines in a spreadsheet, and hoping nothing was missed.

So we built a tool that reads the invoice from the email it arrives in and turns it into a filing. A person approves each one before it goes. Then we connected states that accept filings electronically, one channel at a time: SLTX SMART in Texas, SLIP in California, FSLSO in Florida, the SLIP+ clearinghouse states and more.

Since 2024, the platform has run a filing bureau's daily work. That is where we learned most of what we know, including which states accept a filing and then reject it days later.

We follow two rules in everything we build. First, show the math: the public calculator uses the same rates we file with, so you can check us before you talk to us. Second, say plainly what is automated: we file electronically in 24 states, build the state's file in 7 more, and prepare the filing for your own portal account everywhere else.

If you file surplus lines taxes, we would like to hear how you file today. The first call takes 15 minutes.

The problem we solve

Multi-state complexity

51 jurisdictions, each with different rates, fees, deadlines, and reporting requirements. Keeping up manually is a full-time job.

Manual data entry

Rekeying invoice data into state portals is slow, error-prone, and expensive. One typo can trigger audit flags.

Legacy systems

Software that predates state API programs means no automation, no real-time confirmation, and no way to scale.

Deadline pressure

Missed filings mean penalties, audit risk, and reputation damage. There's no margin for error in compliance work.

How we got here

  1. 2020

    Founded

Started to fix one broker's filing work: legacy software, and every filing typed in by hand.

  2. 2020

    AI email processing

Started reading invoices from email with OCR, so the data no longer had to be typed in.

  3. 2021

    MGA expansion

    Began onboarding managing general agents.

  4. 2022

    State API integration

Connected the first states that accept filings electronically, so their confirmations come back into the platform.

  5. 2023

    Modern AI integration

Added GPT-4 to the document pipeline to read invoice details more accurately.

  6. 2024

    Filing in production

A multi-state filing bureau moved its daily operation onto the platform.

  7. 2026

All 50 states and DC supported

Rates, rules, deadlines and reporting for every U.S. jurisdiction. Direct electronic filing in 24 states, generated state filings in 7 more, and prepared filings in the remaining 19 states and DC.
